Vanessa Shelley is one of Frickbears 3's four playable night guards and represents Hard difficulty. She is a separate selectable protagonist from Vanny, who is involved in an ending route.
Vanessa's place in the guard lineup
Frickbears 3 has four named playable guards tied to its difficulty ladder:
| Guard | Difficulty |
|---|---|
| Jeremy Fitzgerald | Easy |
| Mike Schmidt | Normal |
| Vanessa Shelley | Hard |
| Fritz Smith | Lunatic |
Vanessa is therefore a difficulty selection, not a requirement that forces one ending. The ending route still depends on what the player salvages, collects, buys, and chooses during the run.
Vanessa is not Vanny
Search results often mix the two names. In this game, Vanessa Shelley is the playable night guard. Vanny is a separate character connected to the hidden-Animatronic objective used by the Evil route and the combined Ultimate route.
Keep those roles separate when reading route advice: choosing Vanessa does not automatically start Vanny's objective, and playing another guard does not by itself block that objective.
What Hard completion changes
Completing the game on Hard earns the Vanessa difficulty trophy, Vanessa? I Barely Know Ya! More importantly for full progression, a completed Hard run is required before the game allows a Lunatic run with Fritz.
For a first Vanessa clear, use an ending route you already understand. Adding a new guard difficulty, unfamiliar Animatronics, and a new ending route in the same attempt makes failures harder to diagnose.
Preparation checklist
- Enter Hard with a tested response for every Animatronic you plan to salvage.
- Preserve tokens for the upgrades your route actually needs.
- Decide the ending objective before the first hidden salvage so later choices do not conflict.
- Treat the Ultimate Ending as a separate completion run after all standard endings are recorded.
